Resident Spotlight: Meet Patty Luczak!
When Patty and her husband were looking to leave Palatine, Illinois for warmer weather and less harsh winters, they visited friends in North Carolina and fell in love. They started visiting communities and realized that Encore at Wendell Falls was for them.
Tell us your story! What brought you to Wendell Falls?
Once we decided we wanted to be in NC, we started visiting communities, and I just had a good feeling about Wendell Falls. It checked all the boxes. I’m a nurse, so I need to be near medical care, and we loved that Wendell Falls has that small-town feeling while still being close to Raleigh and the airport, so I can easily visit my children in Illinois.
After having visited so many communities, we sat at the Farmhouse Café one day and my husband looked around and said, “you know, I could live here.” This was the only community that really felt like home to us, so that was it.
What made you choose to live in Encore?
We knew we wanted to get into a 55+ community so that when we retire, we will have activities to keep us busy. We’ve loved music bingo, book club, garden club, hiking club, sewing club, game nights, therapeutic coloring and bourbon club. We actually went on a bourbon tour and out to dinner with a group of around 28 of us this weekend.
What do you love about Encore now that you live here?
I’ve only been here two months, but everyone here has already become like family to me. My husband travels for work, so it’s great to be in a community where everybody looks out for one another. One neighbor even gave me his house code in case I ever need anything while my husband is away and can’t get ahold of them. I’ve made comments to my neighbors about my family all being back home in Illinois and they’re like, “no, your family is here.”
What are your favorite things about Encore?
The activities and lifestyle really align with what we were looking for in a 55+ community. We wanted somebody to lead the way and get the activities going and the lifestyle director, Matt, is amazing. We love that no matter what we are interested in, there is an activity or club for us. It’s a great way to bring everybody together and meet new neighbors. Everybody here is so friendly and excited to meet new people.
What would you tell someone who is considering moving to Encore?
I would tell them it's been a great experience for us. Building a home is always difficult and stressful, especially when you live out of state, but Lauren and Chris from David Weekley were great in helping us get through the process. The neighborhood is awesome, everybody's very welcoming and the amenities are great. The lifestyle director has been great. The neighbors have made us feel very comfortable and safe.
