A new Wake County Park is coming soon!
Wake County is in the design stages of a new park – Lake Myra County Park! Located south of Knightdale and Wendell, this 224-acre property in the Marks Creek watershed is directly connected to Wendell Falls' trails, providing residents with convenient access to the park's diverse amenities.
The park is currently under design, with plans for numerous facilities and amenities, including a park center, day-use shelters, playground, nature overlooks, boardwalks and additional trails, along with other recreational opportunities.
The design plans for the park began years ago, and after experiencing delays from the pandemic, Wake County is actively seeking input to ensure the community’s needs are met. Community meetings are underway to gather valuable feedback, both in-person and through online form submissions.
Community members are invited to voice their preferences by voting on various park activities, ranging from archery and bird/wildlife viewing to boating, disc golf, dog walking, fishing and more. Additionally, participants can express their preferences for park facilities, such as EV charging stations, open play fields, picnic shelters and community gardens. The array of choices extends to park programs, including arts and crafts, fitness, historical and cultural education and volunteer opportunities. Suggestions for any desired inclusions are also encouraged.
Mark your calendars! The next community meeting will be held at Wendell Town Hall, located at 409 Landing View Drive, Wendell, on February 13 between 4 – 7 p.m. Come out to view concept plans, share your thoughts, and engage with local representatives!
It is estimated that the park will open in late 2026. Learn more about the plans for Lake Myra County Park here.
