Wendell Falls welcomes newest Wake Tech location to area
On April 25, more than 2,000 people gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Wake Tech’s newest campus, Wake Tech East, located right near Wendell Falls!
Citing the dynamic and rapidly growing area, Wake Tech President, Dr. Scott Ralls, shared great excitement about Wake Tech’s fourth campus.
Wake Tech East, found off Rolesville Road at Interstate 87, is a 106-acre site that features three buildings so far: the Education and Innovation Center, the Public Safety Simulation Complex and the Central Energy Plant.
The Education and Innovation Center is the hub for academic programs, Admissions, resources and student activities. It features smart classrooms, state-of-the-art chemistry and physics labs, an auditorium, a library, a tutoring center and student gathering spaces and dining options.
The Public Safety Simulation Complex will be used for training first responders. The building is the state’s most realistic 4D immersive streetscape for force-on-force training, with EMS ambulance bays and a driver training track that supports emergency vehicle and pursuit training.
The Central Energy Plant provides heating and cooling for the entire campus. It is the first facility in North Carolina to earn a Four Green Globes® certification for sustainability from the Green Building Initiative. It was also named Project of the Year.
Starting in the fall, Wake Tech East will have four degree programs:
- Associate in Arts
- Associate in Science
- Associate in Engineering
- Emergency Medical Science Associate in Applied Science
Elizabeth City State University and East Carolina University will also have a presence on Wake Tech East’s campus. Elizabeth City State University will be offering its Aviation and Unmanned Aircraft Systems programs and East Carolina University will be offering its Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology degree program.
This year, the college will break ground on two more buildings, an Advanced Technology Center and a Fire and Rescue Services Training Complex. The Advanced Technology Center will be the home of Wake Tech’s Biopharmaceutical Technology program, with a realistic biopharma simulated workspace and a systems integration lab for advanced manufacturing. The Fire and Rescue Services Training Complex will feature a Class-A burn building, a training tower and a vehicle extrication ditch.
