New Homes Bring New Friends

Meet Ryan and Katie King, who were inspired to make the move to Wendell Falls from Garner due to its community-focused atmosphere; and Clark and Kate Burress, who transitioned from Seattle to Wendell after they visited friends who already lived in Wendell Falls and fell in love with it.

Maybe luck, maybe fate, the two couples both sought out new homes around the same time, met in the sales office and got connected. … The rest was history!

What brought you to Wendell Falls?

Kate B.: [Previously,] Clark and I were living in Seattle. After 4.5 years there, we decided we wanted to move back east to be closer to family and friends. We made a plan for me to transfer to a new territory for work and for Clark to get a role with the same company.

With a little luck and a lot of interviews, the stars aligned and we moved to Raleigh. We weren't very familiar with Raleigh, but we had friends in Wendell Falls already. After visiting their home one weekend, we fell in love with the neighborhood and community feel.

Katie K.: Ryan and I currently live in Garner, in a semi-custom home that we built in 2022. When we decided to start looking for our next home, we were looking for a bigger home in a community-focused neighborhood.

In April, Ryan was golfing at a course near Wendell Falls and asked me to come check out the neighborhood. I was hesitant at first, but once I drove through the neighborhood and saw people out walking, kids playing in the parks, couples biking on the trails, golf carts heading to the pool and all the gorgeous homes—I was sold!

We were interested in Homes By Dickerson’s custom homes before we knew they were built in Wendell Falls, so when we fell in love with the neighborhood and found out Homes By Dickerson was a builder, it felt like fate.

Tell us the meet-cute! How did the four of y’all cross paths?

Kate B.: We set up a meeting with Shireen at Homes by Dickerson and during our second meeting, we happened to be at the office at the same time as Katie and Ryan. Shireen put Katie and I in a group text and the rest is history! We can't wait to host friends together and go on group date nights in Wendell.

Katie K.: Shireen saw Kate and Clark and said “By the way, those two might be your neighbors!” We awkwardly smiled, waved and thought, “No way; that would be a coincidence!” Not long after, we secured our lot and so did they—right beside ours!

We had our first friend date at Jaguar Bolera in Raleigh Ironworks. We played duckpin bowling, had some drinks and became instant friends. Kate and I connected over our love for hosting and themed parties, Ryan and Clark can’t wait to golf together, and we all bonded over our love for our pups, Charlie and Hazel. We are so excited for our new home and for our new neighbors/friends. We can’t wait to start making memories on Big Bradley Drive!

What do you love most about the new home you are designing?

Kate B.: We are designing a Concord Tudor by Homes by Dickerson. We love the open concept of the kitchen and living room area. We also love to host friends and family! We are most excited to have all of our friends over during football season and be able to host our families for the holidays. We are already renting a townhouse in Wendell Falls, so we are excited to watch the progress on our home!

Katie K.: We are designing a Seabrook with Homes by Dickerson. The Seabrook layout is perfect for us because it is a very open concept in the living, kitchen and dining room. We love to host, so we needed a space that felt comfortable for parties and lounging around on the weekends.

The Seabrook layout also has a pocket office, an upstairs loft and four bedrooms. This layout will provide space for both of us to work from home and have room for family and friends to stay (and hopefully a nursery in the future!).

We can't wait to begin the design phase of the project; our Pinterest boards are bursting at the seams! Homes By Dickerson allows so much opportunity for you to create the home of your dreams.

What are you most looking forward to about life in Wendell Falls, once both of you close in mid-March?

Kate B.: We are looking forward to having a fenced-in yard for our pup, Hazel—and decorating to make our house a home. All four of us are moving into our new homes around the same time, which makes it that much more exciting!

Katie K: We are most excited to start decorating our new home! Ryan and I are both very into interior design, so we can't wait to start buying furniture and making it feel like *our* home. We are also so excited to start using the parks, trails and pools!
